Only issues is that seems to double click by accident quite easy ( my wacom is gettign on a bit tho. That way my muscle memory takes me to spots directly after a while. So each part of the pad is mapped to an absolute value on screen. It's not that much easier to grab those microscopic velocity bars in the GE. It also means that slow movements with the pen move the cursor as much as fast movement, so you don't get a huge increase in precision. That means you end up with a lot more motion to get from one end of the display to the other. One thing I hadn't considered when I tried it with DP: is has no acceleration like a mouse or pad.

I'm interested but any suggestions about which bluetooth USB dongle I can buy to use with my 5 year old macpro? cos u need bluetooth for magic trackpadīayswater wrote:I have a Wacom tablet (not the expensive one mentioned, but about 5x8). But between the Magic Trackpad and the DP Control app for the iPad, I'm set. Even though I find it difficult to accept, I try to stay out of it.

I know some people do not want a trackpad. I have hundreds of shortcuts for the Trackpad. Plus, the gestures and characters can all be application specific. JiTouch (3rd party gesture software) allows you to do dozens of gestures on the Magic Trackpad, including writing characters (A, B, C, D…Z), each of which can be assigned to an action.

This is the biggest revolution in user interface control - EVER - IMHO. I tried it on impulse, just picking one up at the Apple Store for the heck of it. I stuck with that basic design until the Apple Magic Trackpad came out. The thing that revolutionized GUI mousing for me was originally the Kensington Turbo Mouse, back in 1985.

Once I tried it, I never even got out my venerable old Kensington Expert Mouse Pro again. The Magic Trackpad requires about a month of commitment to make it permanent in your mind and fingers. I can't get much more specific than that.

Set up gestures to open specific windows if you want, but be sure to make them specific to DP in Jitouch's settings. Most menus respond to a tap, then remain open while you scroll up or down the menu with two fingers.

You don't have to push it down or "click" it. Two fingers lightly dragged up or down over a fader is all it takes. Operation of faders and knobs is likewise unparalleled in any other device I've used. The scrolling in Digital Performer with the Magic Trackpad is a dream come true. You can get one-pixel resolution that way, without stressing your wrist. Currently I'm using the thick foam rest that came with a Kensington Expert Mouse Pro.įor precision, I rock my fingertip to zero-in on the target. To make this possible, I use a high wrist-rest.

I've never found Jitouch to be a problem with any sort of software conflicts, and it is very stable.įor use in Digital Performer, precision is required, and one must be able to relax and keep the wrist loose. Sometimes it becomes slow to respond (it still responds, just with a delay), so I turn it off and back on again from the menu in the menubar. Jitouch apparently has a small memory leak or something. I don't know what the cutoff date is, but it doesn't work on MacBook Pro's with the smaller built-in trackpad. Jitouch also works with the built-in trackpad on current MacBook Pro models. If there are conflicts with Apple's gestures, I usually find another gesture to use in Jitouch, leaving the Apple gestures working wherever possible. Then in Jitouch I set up some custom gestures for each app, or universally. I use the basic setup controls for the Magic Trackpad in System Preferences/Trackpad. I've successfully used Jitouch in Snow Leopard and in Lion. To begin with, I would never use it without Jitouch, the 3rd party gesture software. No need for any programming experience, you are capable of automating and scheduling any onscreen actions without typing a single line of code. You can also save your operation recordings as script files for later use. Have you been able to get these to work properly? It will allow you to record and replay a sequence of keyboard and mouse actions. I've turned off all three and four finger functions in the Apple Trackpad preferences, and disabled all apps except DP in the jitouch panel. They will do other things but they also scroll the edit windows at the same time. So I've tried to set up three and four finger swipes to do other things. For example, a two finger swipe does a good job of scrolling vertically and horizontally in DP's edit windows. One problem I have is that a lot of the gestures that include swiping give me unintended results. Maybe you could give some advice on how best to set it up. Shooshie, I use a magic trackpad, but don't think I'm getting much out of it.
